Internet of Things one of the main protagonists of 2021

It is possible that -almost- we all have the same word in our minds when we think of 2020. It is true that the past year has been terrible in many respects, but if there is one good thing about it, it is that innovation and ingenuity have emerged in an unprecedented way, advances are not born from one day to the next. The world in which we live has little to do with what it was just twenty years ago and much of the blame for this lies with the scientific and technological innovations that the 21st century has brought us, which have allowed this explosion of technology that we have experienced in 2020.

But no doubt this 2021 will mark a before and after in the way of a new technological revolution.

A new way of understanding connectivity

This year we are going to see the emergence of a technology that in 2020 has already appeared in the main countries of the world: 5G. Accelerated by the healthcare crisis, "the global boom in 5G investments will make 72% of companies invest in 5G in the next 5 years," says Ignacio Gallego, Country Officer Nokia Spain.

"In order to take advantage of the great opportunities of 5G, organizations must start or step up their planning now," he adds. this transformation will require "digitizing operations, processes and ways of working to take advantage of the full potential of 5G."

The ultimate adoption of IoT devices

Adoption of the Internet of Things, from smart home security monitoring systems to drones and medical devices, is expected to continue to grow as consumers and businesses move to take advantage of the high bandwidth, ultra-low latency and fundamentally new network capabilities enabled by 5G.

Strengthening cybersecurity

In the 'rush to digitize' that 2020 has brought us, organizations "may not have through the complexity they were creating in their systems, resulting in costly periods of potential downtime," says Patrick Smith, Pure Storage's EMEA CTO. This problem, he continues, "has become increasingly unacceptable." "By 2021, I expect a total intolerance of downtime and security issues on the part of customers, partners and employees," he emphasizes

More cyberattacks

Pure Storage indicates that cybercriminals are going to be out in force in a big way. While in many cases the healthcare crisis has brought out the best in people, it has also brought the worst in some cases: criminals "have taken advantage of the teleworking phenomenon to attack companies through the most vulnerable users or vulnerabilities in their now more extensive perimeter protection, resulting in an unprecedented number of attacks."

As a result, he predicts, in 2021 we will see "a continued increase in devastating ransomware attacks,"

Devices everywhere and controlled by voice

As we say, 2021 will be a year in which devices will invade even more the environments we know, especially our homes: smart speakers, smart TVs, smart refrigerators... voice control of all this army of machines at our service will be even more noticeable next year.

In this sense, we will also see a boom in chatbots, given the impulse that e-commerce and digital channels are experimenting. The already well-known assistants will also take on a protagonist role: Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant... they will increasingly want to know more about you, to have more data, to offer you everything you ask for.
